The Interviews in Hollybrook

On May 26, 2005 and band of Rocky Gap students and intrepid oral historians descended on the home of Gary Carroll in Hollybrook. Mr. Carroll had graciously offerred to allow the use of his basement sound studio for a series of interviews with Bland County Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Trista Willis, Rachel Reed, Sabrina Clark, Stephanie Lambert, Andrew Jennings, and Brandon Wolfe arrived with recorders, cameras, and questions to ask. Henry Conley arranged to have veterans from the VFW post in Mechanicsburg make themselves available to be interviewed. Henry had already been interviewed on an earlier date by his granddaughter on his experiences in the Korean War. His brother,Jim, talked about Korea and Vietnam, Gary Carroll shared his experiences in Vietnam, and Ray Faulkner served in the Big One, WWII.

A good time was had by all. The interviews are provided in a narrative form. On the narrative pages you will find more pictures from the session, video snippets from the interviews, and scanned photos from the veteran's personal collections.

Apple quicktime will be needed to view the videos of the veterans. It can be downloaded for the mac or
